Arctic Hope Project #2

Update #3 - Saturday night, Sunday & Monday morning

Hello from Cape Dorset!

We’ve had another great couple days! On Saturday afternoon Braden, Ty and Parkor hosted a music workshop for some of the kids in the community and had around 4-5 come out and participate. Braden was saying that this has become one of their favourite parts of their involvement with AHP given they’re really able to spend one on one time with the kids. The principal of the local school was also incredibly enthusiastic about the new addition to our program and has already asked us to bring Braden and his team back to work with some of his students!

Saturday night we hosted our second youth conference service and had a headcount of about thirty people. Because it was Halloween, we focused more on a time of prayer and worship and even though we had smaller numbers, it was evident that there were many impacted and filled with the presence of God that came into the room.

Sunday morning we had a great service where Steven brought an amazing word for Cape Dorset. He opened with a verse from 1 Samuel 2:8, which says,

“He raises the poor from the dust,
He lifts the needy from the ash heap
To make them sit with nobles,
And inherit a seat of honor;
For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,
And He set the world on them.”

This passage comes from a prayer Hannah prayed after God answered the deepest desire of her heart and gave her a son. Steven went on to share about how even Hannah’s initial dream was just to have one child, but God didn’t just give her one, but six! And in the same way her situation seemed absolutely impossible, God not only made a way, but His dream for her was even greater than her own!

Since the high school burnt down, there has been a huge pile of twisted metal, ash and debris right in the centre of town. Everyday it is a continual reminder of all that was lost, but instead of being overwhelmed with a sense of hopelessness, Steven really challenged the church to remember Hannah’s prayer. That instead of being discouraged every time they see the ruins, to remember that God is the one who is lifting them into a place of hope and able to make a way where there seems to be no way.

Then in the afternoon Braden, Ty & Parkor hosted one last music workshop and had another great group of kids come out and participate. They thoroughly enjoyed their time with the kids and were really excited to see many of them showed genuine talent and potential.

And to close things off for the day we had a PHENOMENAL evening service!! We had over 70+ people come out and this time there were even a handful of young fathers, which was amazing, seeing as we'd really only seen women and children up to this point. Julia was telling me she could barely make her way thru the room to take pictures! I wasn't able to be there as Claire was very tired and needed to go to bed, but I will be sending out another update later today with more details of all the AMAZING things God did!! The pastors of the church, Martha & Matthew Jaw were telling some of our team that it has always been their dream to see this church full and last night, they felt like that dream came true! The service started at 7:00pm and the team didn't get home until around 11:00pm which is a couple hours longer than our other services have gone. God is doing AMAZING things here in Cape Dorset!!!

This morning we had a great start to our Resiliency Workshop with Reepa Evic-Carleton! We have ten selected participants and thus far we've had five show up, all young men!! Given the service went quite late last night, we're expecting more to show up this afternoon and tomorrow. So stay tuned for more details!

Reepa will also be debriefing and counselling with the local teachers as well as hosting a 'Healing Circle' this evening for anyone in the community who would like to attend.

We couldn't be more excited for all of the things that God is doing in this community and wanted to THANK YOU again for all of your prayers!! We really felt like we had major breakthrough last night and are so expectant to see even more ground taken this week!

Please keep BradenTyTravis & Parkor in your prayers as they make their journey home today and tomorrow. These guys did such a phenomenal job and we pray God would really refresh them even as they travel.

Please also keep Reepa in your prayers as well as the students, teachers and community members who will be attending her sessions today. These times are incredibly vital to the healing process and we really want everyone involved to feel covered and protected as they allow themselves to be open and vulnerable.
